Comfort of SASAWASHI

SASAWASHI is a new fabric woven by twisted WASHI yarns that are blended with KUMAZASA.

There’s no other fabric like SASAWASHI, which contains excellent features from “the Power of Nature.” Blending the fibers of KUMAZASA with WASHI gives it natural antibacterial and deodorant power. WASHI is lint-free, light, highly absorbent, and provides good UV protection. Washing durability is on par with cotton and the antibacterial properties are maintained.

FEATURE 01

Amazing water absorbency
Comfortable and silky feeling

WASHI absorbs twice the amount of water as cotton. In addition, since there is almost no reverting of moisture, the surface is always smooth and not sticky, even when working out.

FEATURE 02

Natural antibacterial and deodorant properties
to prevent germs and odors and make you feel comfortable

The natural antibacterial and deodorizing power of KUMAZASA inhibits the growth of bacteria and prevents unpleasant odors.

FEATURE 03

Natural, safe, and comfortable for the skin

SASAWASHI is a natural product. Because the fiber structure of SASAWASHI does not fuzz, it does not prickle, and it does not generate wadding dust, so it does not stress the skin

FEATURE 04

Easy to clean
Long-lasting comfort.

SASAWASHI products can be machine washed on a gentle setting in a garment bag.

FEATURE 05

Environmentally friendly
Comfortable in summer and winter

SASAWASHI is full of features that are friendly to both the environment and people. It blocks more than 98% of ultraviolet rays without using chemicals, has excellent insulation properties, and is cool in summer and warm in winter.

WASHI & KUMAZASA

ABOUT WASHI

No other paper in the world is as useful as WASHI - a strong, durable, water-resistant, and versatile material. For example, Shoji (sliding WASHI paper door), keep you cool in the hot, humid summers and warm in the winter thanks to their humidity control, water absorption, insulation, and UV protection. As WASHI can absorb both oil and water, it can be used as blotting paper and oil absorbent cooking paper. Absorbing different substances at the same time is THE special feature of SASAWASHI socks and towels.

ABOUT KUMAZASA

KUMAZASA is a plant of the Gramineae family growing only in the cool highlands of Japan. This hardy plant can grow for 60 years or more, surviving harsh, snowy winters. Known for its strong antibacterial properties, KUMAZASA has been used to preserve food such as SASA SUSHI, SASA DANGO (dumplings), and CHIMAKI (rice dumplings) which are all wrapped in SASA leaves. Bears eat large amounts of KUMAZASA before hibernation for its blood purification and detoxification benefits. Studies have shown it to be rich in chlorophyll, polysaccharides, lignin, fiber, and vitamin K. Among all KUMAZASA’S benefits, SASAWASHI products focus on their antibacterial properties and are produced as “they are” in their natural state.

How we make SASAWASHI

PAPERMAKING

In the process of making WASHI, KUMAZASA flakes (improved SASAWASHI fiber so that its chlorophyll may not resolve) are blended into WASHI to make a sheet of SASAWASHI paper.

SLITTING

Slitting a sheet of SASAWASHI. Slitting means cutting a sheet straight to make a long tape. A narrow tape comes to a fine yarn and a wide tape comes to a thick yarn.

TWISTING

Twisting the SASAWASHI tapes to make yarns in the same way as to make strings. By weaving and knitting the SASAWASHI yarns, creating various products becomes possible.

WEAVING

SASAWASHI fabrics are woven by machine using our special yarns.
